They would be mad not to buy it, the appreciation in value over the next 10-20 years will be MIND BOGGLING.

Even if the appreciation, outweighed the running costs, of what benefit would the appreciation be to West Ham?

Not only that, Surf. It's also the LONGEST CANTILEVERED ROOF IN THE WORLD isn't it?

If it actually kept all people in the stadium dry it would be proper brilliant.

Weren't they recently talking about installing solar panels on it too? Not sure how that fits in with Willtell's demolition either?

Be fair, the new roof does house some pretty ICONIC floodlights.

El Scorchio 11:28 Thu Mar 30
Re: West Ham 'could finally purchase the London Stadium'
Yup. New roof retrofitted at a cost of millions to the taxpayer again all because of the arrogance and short sightedness of Coe, Jowell etc in declaring football would never be played there so there would be no consideration with the construction. THEY have cost the taxpayer all these millions. I know it’s been done to death but it could have been a much better stadium hed they not been so bloody minded.

If the roof was only suitable for 10 years from build, they’d never have been able to allow anyone to use the place for fear of it falling down on them.

Lee Trundle 11:16 Thu Mar 30
Re: West Ham 'could finally purchase the London Stadium'
The roof wasn't installed until 2016 when we moved in there, so according to Willtell it should have been torn down before it was even built!

Kaiser Zoso 11:09 Thu Mar 30
Re: West Ham 'could finally purchase the London Stadium'
What, in 2012 when it was first built you mean?

So it wouldn't have lasted more than 5 months?

Willtell 11:06 Thu Mar 30
Re: West Ham 'could finally purchase the London Stadium'
Apparently Sullivan doesn’t want to buy it according to Gonzo. Roof is a temporary one that was originally due to come down more than 10 years ago. It needs serious rebuilding

It looks like Tottenhams original idea to knock it down and rebuild it was right and politicians couldn’t accept that the showpiece Olympic stadium was doomed. No surprise at that so now it needs serious maintenance no-one wants to pay for

Re: West Ham 'could finally purchase the London Stadium'
They definitely WOULD buy it - it makes the whole Club a much more valuable and saleable asset and therefore makes them more money. They - or any future owner - would be mad not to buy it (on the cheap, at least).

For Sully & co the short-term losses of upkeep etc would be minimal.

Re: West Ham 'could finally purchase the London Stadium'
This Mail article is absolute bollocks. There is not a single quote from the club to suggest they are considering purchase. It's pure speculation.

Our owners have absolutely no intention of purchasing the bowl, even it was for just a nicker. They have the deal of all deals and it would be madness to take on the added costs that would accrue from owning it.

Also, in a few years time, maybe 10 or so, the place will start to need some serious refurbishment which will cost millions.

With the club holding a 99 year lease on the deal of £3.5 p.a. rent the only possible way they would consider taking it on is if the LLDC actually paid them to. I know this sounds outrageous and unlikely, but they would have to make a very generous offer for Sullivan to even think about it.

So the LLDC will have to start getting creative if they want it off their hands. Fat chance.

All they need to do is use the actual park better on match days....they have festivals go on etc why not designate an area to have a bierkeller over there call it the BLITZkrieg to add some cockney humour to it.....there's load you could do to make it more homely and it's closer to being in East London than we've been for a longtime....we wasn't welcome at UP due to the change in the areas occupancy.....we are still not welcome over there either.....except what we are and what we bring to the area with our attendance and you may see a set of fans love it's roots again.

Correct, it's the 5th busiest but is 1st that is not a terminus.

"Stratford is Britain's busiest railway station plus there are so many options in and out that it is by far the most logical place for the stadium to be.

If it were a great football stadium who would complain?"

Fair point. But I would prefer a stadium in an area where the fans actually lived, entertained themselves and had some sort of affinity with. But with the cockney diaspora that can no longer happen.

I liked the old stadiums that were in residential streets. Maine Rd, Highbury, Upton Park (of course) etc. A lot of today's premier league stadiums are in the middle of retail parks or out of town.

Khan's had enough of it already I suspect. It's losing far too money as it is . And he's been making a lot of noise over redeveloping crystal palace it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if kretinsky has already got a deal in place.

Razzle nice idea but those communities don't want it back.....the parking issues, pissed people in droves, the noise.....all brings down the price of their own castles......we just pop in and out and leave it to them to clear up afterwards.....

Willtell 2:57 Wed Mar 29
Re: West Ham 'could finally purchase the London Stadium'
It’s part of our DNA to want our own home but it would take a younger owner than Sullivan imho.

The site alone must be worth a fortune but unfortunately the stadium was designed to political specs and not football needs.

The next political mayor will want to wash his/her hands of the expense and will give it to WHU providing it isn’t flattened and sold off….

Personally I would want the stadium back in the community.
There seems to be a plot of land by West Ham station near the gas works - explosive idea.

El Scorchio 2:31 Wed Mar 29
Re: West Ham 'could finally purchase the London Stadium'
Definitely. Being run like a proper business would turn the stadium into much less of a financial black hole. The civil service really are not known for ruthless efficiency or expertise (all those better skilled people work in the private sector, and who can blame them) after all, they let Brady and Sullivan run rings round them over all sorts of aspects of the lease and running of the stadium, which says a lot.

Only sticking point is why on earth would we want to be burdened with the asset and all it's various running costs and admin when at the moment we have a fantastic deal for peanuts. IF we are confident we can turn the 3.5 mill PA or whatever it is into a profit for the club each year, then go right ahead, but you're in for so much more liability. If 'the boiler breaks' at the moment the landlord forks out to fix it, If we buy it, we do.

For any prospective owner with some money and a real vision, it's GOT to be tempting as an opportunity, hasn't it? Short term plan to get the playing side invested in and properly competing, long term plan to improve/rebuild the thing.
